As a governing body, all of the Governors of Glasshoughton Infant Academy are passionate about ensuring that the provision and education of each and every child is the best and stand by our school motto of:

‘Everyone deserves the best, Everyone deserves respect.

Although we all have many other commitments including jobs, hobbies and families, we dedicate time to visit school regularly where we meet the children and staff, attend 6 meetings a year and are present at events to support the hard work of the staff, children and parents.

Please see below details of our current Governors, a little about us, our role as a Governor and, if needed, how we can be contacted.

Phil Wagstaff

Parent Governor

 Chair of Governors

Finance & Premises Committee

Date of Appointment: 4.10.2012

Term of Office end date: 31.08.2018

I have lived and worked in the Castleford area for over 15 years. My first involvement with Glasshoughton Infant School (now Glasshoughton Infant Academy) was when I organised a voluntary Challenge project through my work as a Project Manager for Costain Ltd. At GIA we were able to enhance the outdoor learning and play areas.

I am married with two sons aged 11 and 6. My eldest attends Park Junior School and my youngest attends year 2 of Glasshoughton Infant Academy.

As a parent I expect high standards and am passionate about raising standards across all abilities whilst in a safe yet fun environment.

Most of my free time is based around my family whether this is taking them to rugby training or karate lessons. Any time that is left I can be found in the garden or trying my hand at DIY.

Finance & Premises Committee

Date of Appointment: 16.10.2012

Term of Office end date: 31.08.2018

I am Headteacher at Glasshoughton Infant Academy where I began my teaching career in 2005. I am passionate about giving children the best possible start that I can, with a great belief that children only get one chance at school and therefore they deserve the chance to be the best they can be.

I am currently Literacy subject leader, a subject a feel passionate about. For children to be able to access all other areas of the curriculum they need to be able to listen, to ask and answer questions, to read and to write. Literacy is the gateway to learning and we have to get it right.

Paul Phelps

Local Authority Governor

Teaching & Learning Committee

Date of Appointment: 31.8.1997

Term of Office end date: 31.08.2017

I am married with 2 grown up boys ( men) . I was born & have lived in Glasshoughton for nearly all of my life, which is quite a long time. In fact I have been living in the very house I was born in for a number of years now,( history lesson now over). I first became interested in becoming a school governor when my son enrolled at Glasshoughton Infant School. I did not want to just drop my son off and then pick him up at the end of the day and not know much about what went off in between. Being a school governor is very rewarding & you yourself learn a great deal at the same time. My grandson is now in school so I've been here a while, so you could say I'm enjoying the role. I would recommend it to anyone. Why not come & join us ?

I am a keen sports fan particularly Rugby League. I'm still playing with the Ossett & Bahtat's  Masters Rugby League teams & like to put some miles in on my bike.

My association with Glasshoughton First School goes back to my own childhood! I attended the old school on School Lane in Glasshoughton back in the sixties. Then my younger sister came to the new school when it first opened in the mid 1970’s, and my own daughter, Laura attended this school from nursery in 2004. I enjoy being part of the school family and working in the community. I have been a governor since 2009. We are now part of the Castleford Multi Academy Trust and as governors we will maintain our individual strength as an outstanding school and continue to build a stronger and vibrant school community for the children of Castleford.

Date of Appointment: 2.12.2014

Term of Office end date: 2.12.2018

I have worked at Glasshoughton Infant Academy for 15 years. I have worked as a Lunch Time Supervisor and I am now working in Reception as a Special Needs and Teaching Assistant and am very proud to be working in an Outstanding school.

I am married with two children who also attended nursery and main school. I have always lived in Castleford so have a good community understanding. I have strong family values and believe that having a good education is a child's best start in life.

I enjoy family activities, eating out, going to the Theatre, taking my dogs for long walks and watching my son playing rugby league.

Community Governor

Date of Appointment: 14.7.2015

Term of Office end date: 14.7.2019

I am the store manager of the Co-op store in Castleford town centre. I have been actively involved with Glasshoughton Infant Academy since the Co-op Group launched Green Schools Revolution back in 2006. This is an education programme that aims to inspire school children to engage with sustainability issues and think differently about the world they live in.
I am 43 and single, one of my favourite leisure time activities is photography. Photography for me is an escape from everyday life. It's a way to express myself and creativity.
My motivation as a governor is to ensure that Glasshoughton Infant Academy provides the best possible education for every child in a safe and supportive environment.

Barbara Hughes

Community Governor

Date of Appointment: 15.11.2016

Term of Office end date: 15.11.2020

I have recently joined Glasshoughton Infant Academy's Governing Body as a Community Governor. I was born in Glasshoughton and have lived here for most of my life following a spell abroad and down South. I was a former pupil at the old Glasshoughton J and I school, and my daughter attended the present school. I believe in the value of the community in supporting each other to achieve best outcomes for all.

I have recently retired from my role within Wakefield Council Children and Young People's Service, and plan to spend more Governor time in GIA. I firmly believe that children deserve the best start possible in life and have the right to top class education. As a former Guide leader I believe children should experience as many varied opportunities as possible to prepare them for an enriched and fulfilling adulthood.

I am a keen walker, a lifelong Cas Tigers fan, I love travelling and curling up with a good read.

I look forward to working with Governor colleagues for the best interests of the children of Glasshoughton: they are our future, after all.

Faye Pease

Parent Governor

Date of Appointment: 1.4.17

Term of Office end date: 31.3.2021

I have recently been appointed as a Parent Governor at Glasshoughton Infant Academy, and I currently work as a Service Quality Consultant at a stockbrokers in Leeds. I have a good understanding of continuous improvement that I hope to share with GIA.

I have two children who both attend Glasshoughton Infant Academy in year 1 and nursery.

My reason for becoming a Parent Governor is to represent and champion the views of all parents.
